About Me
By admin • Oct 8th, 2008 • Category: UncategorizedMy name is Bruce. I’m excited about life and learning. I am passionate about helping people. I invest time in valuable friends and ideas because these are priceless. I also enjoy meeting new friends. The amazing concept about going online is the ability to meet and collaborate with people all over the world…like you! They’re e-friends. I hope you’ll visit BRUCEKRIEG.com and we share ideas together.
After experimenting with a Bachelor’s degree in Sacred Music from Gardner College in Alberta, I decided to finish a B.S. with honors in Music Education from Warner Pacific in Portland, OR. From there, I taught private voice and piano lessons at Ethos, Inc. (a non-profit music center in N.E. Portland). I am a certified Orff-Schulwerk teacher. This technique is designed so every child can be successful in a non-competitive environment. Every student learns music first by using the voice as the primary instrument. In 2007 I finished an M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Integrating Teaching through the Arts. I gained these tools and resources from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.
I currently teach first-fifth grade general music as well as beginning band and choir for sixth grade at Beavercreek, Mt. Pleasant and general music at Jennings Lodge Elementary Schools in Oregon City School District. In addition to teaching elementary music, I direct Choir 1 for the Oregon Children’s Choir organization. If you love to sing, check out the website and come in for an audition. SInce 2001, I have sung with the Portland Symphonic Choir with their concert series, along with the Oregon Symphony. Currently I’m also the interim worship leader at my church.
One of my professional goals is to aid teachers in using integration strategies to teach core curriculum. Working as an elementary music specialist inspires me to understand more about how children learn…the connections children make or don’t make, the styles of learning and the approaches to teaching these styles and bridging these connections. I have to admit during my M.Ed program my excitement accelerated when I starting finding similarities in the Orff-Schulwerk process for music education. I believe the best way to learn is holistically, where students learn the tools they need in a way that is relevant and meaningful. I am here to help you infuse excitement and passion in your classroom! Children need the most of learning so they can be the most for themselves and society.
I’m also here with the reality of our current educational system. I feel if you can walk away with one idea you can use to transform the way your students learn, then I’ve done my duty to inspire you! My posts will include integration strategies in the arts and technology and teaching through the arts. You will have a blast learning too, just the way it should be for students!
Along side this professional goal, I am also a professional singer who lives to communicate the message of the song to a listening audience. Conductors and Music Directors, HIRE ME! You’ll be glad you did.
